CLINICAL APPLICATION

The MotionMonitor xGen provides a streamlined reporting capability for motion capture in clinical settings. Utilize pre-defined templates for:

  • Gait Analysis
  • Running Analysis
  • Baseball Pitching and Hitting Analysis
  • Golf Analysis
  • Jump Analysis

Report data is automatically generated using an icon-driven interface.

If you prefer to make your own report, use our integrated pipeline to output data to Excel. Build your own report layout with standard Excel functions.

The MotionMonitor uses biofeedback functionality as a rehabilitation tool. Encourage a movement with a “success” tone or discourage a movement with a “fail” tone. Feedback can be based on any motion data collected, such as a joint angle, an EMG signal or a force vector. The real-time feedback can be an audio tone, a visual image or graph, or a tactile stimulation from a haptic device.

Combine biofeedback with virtual reality to diagnose or rehab patients under conditions that are not possible in the real world. Present images or objects requiring patient response based on their movement or activity in the virtual world. Use it to test peripheral vision, sensitivity to stimuli, or to measure response times.

Visual displays can be flat projection screens, curved domes or head mounted displays.

The MotionMonitor is frequently used as a clinical research tool to test rehabilitation protocols and methods. Dr. James Thomas used The MotionMonitor to verify that subjects with back pain would improve their movement when immersed in a virtual world. He then used the results to design games to use in the clinic as an aid to rehabilitation.

Another researcher has used modified versions of The MotionMonitor’s Fine Motor Skills Assessment Program (FMSAP) in a virtual operating room. By introducing various factors that affected the surgeon’s certainty regarding the patient’s condition, they could measure the resultant impact on the surgeon’s performance.

Hardware for a MotionMonitor clinical application

Personnel only need to learn one interface to operate all technologies with The MotionMonitor xGen software. The MotionMonitor provides a unifying platform for Clinical, Sports, and Translational Research as all use one software package to run many different types of motion capture and peripheral hardware.

Pick from 15+ motion capture technologies to build the ideal system for your unique needs. We have the expertise and experience to help you select the optimal technology. Utilize markerless systems, surface markers, electromagnetic trackers or inertial sensors to track body segments of interest. Include virtual environments on stereoscopic screens, half-mirrored screens, head-mounted displays, or immersive displays with a 180-degree field of view. Luggable systems, which are configured with laptop computers, house portable technologies like wearable inertial sensors, reference video and EMG, enabling quick and flexible data collection and analysis out in the field or clinic. See the Systems Page for additional information.
